Call me a cheapskate, but I love getting something for nothing. Even in these days of $400 haircuts and million-dollar starter homes, there are plenty of top-notch goods and services that you can snag for free. Check out the new story on Kiplinger.com "Fabulous Freebies" for a look at 26 of our favorite freebies from music and movies to legal and financial advice.

I believe IrfanView is one of the best and easiest photo editors available for free. I also like AVG Free antivirus software. It hasn't failed me yet.

I like the idea of having a good time and getting free stuff too!
The best I have found for that is a party plan company called UndercoverWear. We can get together for some "girl time" and as the hostess I get free stuff ...like lingerie, lounge wear and spa products. Perfect!!

I had a near-addiction for a three-month timeframe and used to order free samples on an almost hourly basis on Fat Wallet and Slick Deals. I was literally getting three or four items a day in the mail for a while. I now have a box full of travel-sized products now for all of our trips. I have Gillette and Schick razors still in their boxes.
The worst was an autographed Bob Barker photo. How badly did I really need that?

I am getting a distinct, non-Tupperware party image.

I'm very thankful for great forums and discussions like this supported by people who enjoy sharing money saving tips.
If I may suggest another type of often "overlooked" freebie, the Body and Blood of Jesus in the Eucharist. My Church is far from perfect but at least this is the one aspect that everyone can still receive gratis! Many other denominations offer free Bibles and other spiritual gifts. I sometimes take for granted how beautiful that is in this day and age when we are tolled and taxed for everything else.

That is free as long as you and thousands of your fellow devotees do not tithe your life's savings to an evangelist, who uses said funds buy a Leer jet to go to Aspen and Maui for "retreats."

Here are a couple others that readers have emailed me. Thought I'd pass 'em along for all to share:
--"Free 411" - 800-373-3411. You get free directory assistance - those charges can really add up if used a lot. One has to listen to some brief advertising sometimes....sometimes the call goes right to assistance......works from all phones - landlines/cell/etc.
--Free parking! If you live in the 'burbs you probably don't have this problem, but many downtowns offer free parking during certian hours, or on certain streets. Know the windows and save a few bucks. Plus, when traveling, look for guide books that point you toward free parking around points of interest.
