View Full Version : Need info on Selected American Shares or Davis Funds
benryanv
I was wondering if anyone had any advice on Selected American Shares and Davis Funds? Going to invest in Selected American shares in my Roth IRA. Everyone says they are really good managers of this fund. What is the difference in Davis New York Venture fund and Selected American Shares fund? The only difference I can find is that Davis New York Venture has a load attached to it an Selected American doesn't. They are invested in the same things. Also I was going to invest in a foregin fund too. Thinking about Dodge and Cox International. Is this a good fund too? Please help. Thanks.

benryanv,
You're correct in the difference being Davis NY Venture fund has a load, Selected American does not. Both are excellent funds, and with either one you'll have the same manager, and essentially the same portfolio, same expense ratio (.87 vs .90), and same returns. Below is an audio clip that may interest you, where the radio host (Adam Bold) talked about these funds this past weekend (good timing on your question!) You'll need RealPlayerŽ in order to listen to the audio. If you don't have RealPlayer on your computer, you can download it free at www.real.com.
