I am investing $20,000 in a regular account. I was wondering if this is a good portfolio for somebody that is 30 years old?

Selected American Shares (SLASX) $5,000
Marsico 21 Century Fund (MXXIX) $3,000
Excelsior Value and Restructuring Fund (UMBIX) $3,000
Julius Baer International Equity II (JETAX) $2,000
Dodge and Cox International (DODFX) $2,000
FBR Small Cap ( FBRVX) $2,500
Champlain Small Company Advisors (CIPSX) $2,500

Large Value - 40%
Large Growth - 15%
Small & Mid Cap - 25%
Internaional - 20%

benryanv,

you have a good selection of funds from many different companies. Through which company are you going to invest with? Usually if you buy a fund out of your fund family they will charge a fee. What are the loads for these mutual funds and expense ratios? I would definatly avoid loads and avoid anything above 1.5%.

When I got into investing I also went through a money magazine picked out a hand full of funds that were well known, realistically I couldn't invest in them because the fees are too great and not worth the cost. However, you have the right mentality, diversification.
