Ok well im 24 yrs old, in college.

Anyway i just sold my motorcycle to fund a macbook pro laptop for school, pay off some credit cards, and maybe invest?

Im looking to invest about 1,000.00 and was told mutual funds would be the best way to go.

Where can i read up on mutual funds, or do you have any other suggestions on investments as young students.

How do you go about actually investing in a mutual fund and what exactly is one. From what i understand lots of people put money toward an investor where the money is invested in various things.

Whats the difference between the low buy in's "like $250" to the higher ones "$10,000.00+"

THANKS!!!

Great choice to invest!

It doesn't really matter if you have $250 or $10,000, it just depends how much you want to spend, and any amount of money that you choice to invest is a great start!

The only problem with mutual funds is there is usually a minimum contribution like $2,500 for Fidelity and $3,000 for Vanguard. Of course, there are many mutual funds out there...

Yes mutual funds is a "group effort" unlike stocks. But I would focus on FEES. Many companies charge riduculous fees! You want to look for 12b-1, loads, management, expense ratio and redemption fees. If you want to avoid this headache than I would focus on the big companies such as Vanguard, Fidelity, T. Rowe Price. I think these are the best companies out there.

Do you have a Target fund? I would look into getting one of these first. These are great funds aimed for retirement. They come diversified with low expense ratio and no other fees. Check out Vanguard. Great company.

Good luck
