View Full Version : Income taxes, sales taxes, property taxes etc are not sufficient?

Hi friends, why you should pay tax when you are winning a prize or lottery? I know that the government requires a lot of money to run our country but the government should be more efficient. Income taxes, sales taxes, property taxes etc are not sufficient? The federal government has no role with luck, instincts, wisdom, knowledge and personal initiative that we individually use to win something. So I think we forced by our government to pay this type of taxes. And what do you think?

It's income. Pay up.
(Hey, if I won something, I have no problem paying taxes on it -- five minutes earlier I had NOTHING, and now I have SOMETHING, so I'm ahead of the game.)

I can agree that the government should be more efficient.
The most efficient type of government is a dictatorship.
I am not ready to go there.....
A democracy is inheirently inefficient.

not that everyone gets this or has this, but i would say that to some degree, the country helped position you to obtain it ... if you are "won" who has.
i have been very successful in this country and i pay a heaping amount of taxes. it is both an irritant and an honor to do so. in this time of war, i like to ignore the little things like roads and police and focus on what my taxes went toward for the soldiers. thereto i ignore the little things like pay and chow and a uniform or two. my goal is to one year buy them a TANK. it would take the mega millions lottery to make that dream a reality. but it would be an honor to pay up ... think they would stencil my name on it?

If that lotto ticket does pays out, your taxes won't buy tomorow's tank, it will go towards the debt that has been accruing for a long time. It would be a drop in an ocean of US aquired debt.. tough to put a stencil on that.

1MO--I appreciate your attitude. I've been out of the foxhole for a year (working in TRADOC for a few years now) but I know what it feels like to lack spare parts for your truck because of the supply system. I tried to remind my soldiers while we were deployed that, while they were complaining, someone else was paying taxes so they didn't have to and so that they could eat that great KBR food when we got back to the FOB periodically.
This day in 1945 marked the end of the shoe ration in this country. We've been fortunate.
