I think thats a tough question. You have a pretty solid balance right now. My question is are you trying to earn more to retire on, or to retain what you have saved thus far? Most people as they get within the 10 year range of retirement are going to want to start securing the funds, putting it into income. Bonds, dividend funds, ect. So if that if your goal you may want to think about income type funds over the growth funds. But if not, I think you have a solid balance right now.

what about percentage wise? right now I have 40% in total stock market and 30% in each of the other funds. I would like to earn more for the next 5 years.

I'm thinking of selling and buying Vanguard energy (vgenx) and metals (vgpmx) funds. What do you think?

40% US
30% foreign
30% bonds
seems like you have everthing covered
selling anything in total and buying something else would be making a concentrated bet on a portion of the market. I do that with about 1/3 of my portfolio. Is this what you want?
Is so, I would bet on
a) financial services
b) tech
c) energy

Jim above is right on. Anyone thinking of asset allocation today, post the 2008 market collapse, whether in a 2009 IRA (www.2009ira.com) or Roth IRA (2008rothira.com) and with 15 years time horizon, it pays to be aggressive. The only thing is that I would lower the bond allocation from 30% to 20% and put that in hi grade Corporates. I would lower international to 25% and put the rest. 55% in US equities. Just my opinion.

The exact allocation, while important, is only one consideration. You really should make an effort to find funds that aren't correlated. You don't want funds that all move up and down in tandem.
There is a website (http://www.assetcorrelation.com) which allows you to type in a list of funds and it then generates a matrix which shows the correlation between all the funds. Most people will find that they're not nearly as diversified as they think they are.

You need to work it on your own. However there are Four factors which will determine your success in reaching your financial goals for retirement:
* Your age and how much you have already saved,
* How much you save in the future,
* How much your money earns,
* How long you work.
Keeping the base of these 4 factors you can actually work out your retirement planning respectively.
