Why is ID theft posted under "Family Fun?"
Puck
Probably because most ID theft is not perpetrated by someone digging through your trash -- it's perpetrated by a family member, typically a parent. Perhaps that's some families' idea of fun.

I have researched many of the quote "ID theft plans" on the market and the only one that is proactive in helping catch a credit problem AND have the legal and criminal resources to correct the problem is Pre-Paid Legal Services Identity Theft Shield and Legal plan. A home-owners policy only helps you after the fact, and resolving your own issue can take years if ever...and the policies do not cover actual stolen money or pay for your time and trouble. Monitoring only tells you there's a problem. Without professionals helping you, you can be facing the nightmare alone, undefended, and under financed to deal with the issues involved. That's why PPL is the only product I offer my clients for personal protection.

I have your credit card. Luckily, you simply called the issuing agency to report the theft and cancel your card, thus preventing any financial liability on your part. Hopefully, you didn't waste your money on an unneeded identity theft program like the one's that you find spamming financial forums. They're such a rip off.

Hi Diaz, follow these tips:
1. Ask for a fraud alert on your credit report
2. File a police report
3. File a complaint with the FTC, www.ftc.gov
4. File a complaint with your state Attorney General’s office or Department of Consumer Affairs
5. Contact the Social Security Administration
6. Contact your local post office

you should call your credit card company and tell them that you are applying for fraud protection..

I would like to note the fact that every year Identity theft costs only the United States up to $6.4 billion. So this figure is very seriousand should be mentioned.
You may visit the Federal Trade Comission's website and get all helpful information you need. And try to find out if your computer is fully protected against any online fraudsters that is "zombies" by secure programs.

There are a lot of people who are victims of the same situation. The only solution I see, is to go to the bank and report what happened and have them block your credit card so no one can use it.
