View Full Version : Army Soldier to Financial Planner
entrepnower
I am getting ready to get out of the army in June. I have a job offer from Ameriprise Financial Services to become a financial planner. I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this company and if it is worth it for me to start working with them. It sounds like a very good job. I just heard so many different stories out there, I am kind of nervous about taking a job like this. I am good with people and numbers. I just want to know if it is worth it or not. Thank you

entre, there are several good forums already explored on becoming a financial advisor. i would most certainly recommend you read them ... for the good, bad, and ugly. here are a COUPLE of links:

i put these first because they explore some of the bias you should be aware of in making this decision. there are lots of folks who think this profession is bunk and you will run into them.

entre, i am also retired from the army and this was my second attempt and second actual career. i wont be doing anything else (though i retain the right to diversify income streams). after reading these threads, i would be happy to address any of your further questions.
i will also wax a little eloquent on Ameriprise if you dont get my feelings from the other threads. i cant do it now as i have a fishing date with my son.
