sorry man, you are screwed.

even if the lights were on and people were running on treadmills, you would be hard pressed to get your money back. but "doors locked/lights off" ... just give it up.

sorry to hear about the situation though.

You might be able to sue them in small claims court, but if yours is like my court, it will cost you at least $50 for the filing fee, and then all the time and energy to make your case. If the gym is declaring bankruptcy, you will be pretty far down the list.

I'd say, try back next week. If the gym is run by one or two people, maybe there was a family emergency.

You might be able to contact your local law enforcement in regards to your (and presumably many others) being duped. Police departments typically have a fraud department and sometimes the FBI gets involved as well.

You might not get your money back, but seeing an arrest or two might sweeten the deal for you.

sorry to hear that, but the best way to get your money back is to talk to the owner/manager of the gym or you can sue them and from there you might get more money than you are expecting.

jron
That is something you need to get a lawyer to. Sue them. But like Puck said it'll just be a waste of money, time and energy, they have probably declared a bankruptcy and there's nothing you can do about it. Unless you locate the owner and discuss your situational with him.

You need to find out what happened to the gym first why they closed then that will give you a better idea of the possibility of getting your money back

Hi Article Don, you should have received a contract when you signed up at the gym, review the contract to see if it explains the process for getting refunds. If not, you can file a complaint against the company with the Better Business Bureau, your local State Attorney General Office or State Consumer Affairs Office.

Also, check to see if the company filed for bankruptcy, if so, you may be entitled to get a portion of all of your money back.

You can sue them in court but the court fees may be more than $200 so it may not be worth it to you.

Whatever action you take you need to do so right away to have the best chance of getting a resolution. Good luck!

GoodGradesNow is correct. You need to find out first what happened to the gym. You can try to ask some info from the shops/stores beside that gym. They probably know what happened to the owner and to the business. If it's about bankruptcy, well I don't think you still have a good chance of claiming your money back?

If only you had paid by credit card!

wchua24
well i think it would be difficult to get back the money.if you have a contract try reading your terms...if there something like that.

johns
Are you sure they didn't move their location? If they just closed down, you can sue them but it's not going to be worth your time for $200.

agentyumi
Like what johns said, if you’re going to sue them you could lose more than $200 and of course you’re also going to spend most of your time. Maybe if it’s possible to talk with the owner and tell your concerns but I know if the reason is bankruptcy then you can’t have your money back.

you are so unlucky, you should investigate the gym before pay the money.

Yea, "before pay the money", you should hire a private investigator to investigate the gym. That will fix them.
