hi
I just filed my 2007 return and my accountant told me that the amount I spent for landscaping and weekly lawn maintenance is not deductible. Is this accurate?
Not that I doubt him but he did make an error doing my capital gains so I want to check here..
thanks

Landscaping and lawn maintenance is not deductible. Much like home maintenance is not tax deductible.

You're welcome. Sorry it wasn't the answer you were hoping for. If the landscaping were a bonafide business expense not associated with your primary residence, you might have a deduction though.

well, to add to that a little bit .. if you operate a home office (for your business or for the convenience of and permission of your employer), you have a deduction for your home lawncare and maintenance the same as you would for electricity and water.

It would make sense in the case of home office/business, but lawn care is considered an Unrelated expense by the IRS and as such is a non-deductible expense. It is listed specifically as such in Table 1: "Types of expenses" in the Home Office Deduction section.
