View Full Version : Write-offs you did not know about

Fincovetz
There are many things you can write-off that you may not know about. If you own a small business, you can automatically deduct about $5 each day for coffee and $15 each day for lunch. This only counts if you have left the house. In some cases, you may not need to show receipts for this, it is just an allowance given to you as a per diem.

If you own a car, you can write off gas expenses, as well as any financing, leasing and insurance you may be paying. This is something that is probably a great relief for many people.

Depending on the industry you work in, you can even write-off your clothing if your public image is important. As well, when it comes to vacations and if you are a freelance writer as an example...as long as you make an effort to try to sell a story out of it - this is a write-off too and is considered a business trip.

For your home, regardless of whether you own or rent, you can deduct a portion of your mortgage or rent payment for the space you use in the home to do your work. You can also deduct a portion of your computer, office supplies and any other expenses such as those things that pertain to your business.

There is a website that has a lot more information on these matters as well as other matters linking to financial information: www.financialcove.com.

Flexible Spending Accounts: From the last months of 2007 till today the 'overseers' of this program have become unreasonable and have been denying claims left and right. Are they trying to do away with this program or what? It hasn't only been myself, but a lot of my co-workers have also been having loads of problems. I know I won't be in it next year for sure!!!

Oooh, these are pretty good. I know some folks who could use this, though some aren't really applicable to me personally. I'll spread the link.
