View Full Version : Scholarship taxable

My son received a college scholarship from his high school PTO. The check was made out directly to him. Is this amount taxable, even though we will use it for his college tuition?

I'm not an expert, but I'm atending college on scholarship right now, and I've never paid taxes on it. It covers tuition exactly, however.

My girlfriend is receiving a scholarship next year for law school, and money spent towards direct educational exspenses (books, tuition) are not taxed. Housing costs are.

I've always treated my scholarship monies as gifts and I haven't reported them.

i dont think you're going to pay for the taxes because it's already included in your tuition fee..but i think you're going to pay the miscellaneous fee
