View Full Version : Is a Return of Premium Life policy worth it?

i have been reading about the various options for Life insurance. I have noticed there is a new option available other than traditional Term and Permanent options (WL, VULs, etc.). For those of us who cannot afford the higher premiums of WL/VULs, is a ROP (Return of Premium) policy worth it? on face value, it seems that when you get all your premiums back at the end of the term, inflation will have eaten away at it and it certainly still is more expensive than Term.

Is there a question here, or would you like me to agree with you?

I agree!

if you want short duration life insurance at the cheapest possible monthly cost - straight term is your best choice.

if you want permanent insurance that will always in place, you want whole life (or perhaps some versions of universal life).

if you want to play games with your insurance; then consider equity indexed, variable universal, or ROP (return of premium) term.

note: some game playing with insurance may be appropriate for some people ... i hope you know who you are!!!

I guess 1_more_opai is also in agreement.

I might add that if the term is guaranteed renewable and convertable, there is no short duration to worry about.

Term life insurance is usually very affordable, and level term life insurance is probably the most popular type of term life insurance, offering you coverage and premiums that remain the same for up to 30 years.

Return of Premium life insurance usually costs a lot more than regular term life insurance. So, if you outlive your policy term, you will get most of the premiums back; however, if you don't, it will have cost you much more for the premiums paid.

Thanks everyone! i guess i was trying to figure out what the selling point was and whether it made any sense, but sounds like it is an expensive form of Term that doesn't have the advantages of permanent insurance. i will stick with my WL and supplement with Term.
