View Full Version : Should our taxes be doubled?

ROC
Just saw the film I.O.U.S.A and the live panel discussion with Warren Buffet, David Walker, Pete Peterson and others. It was really informative.

"An explosion of debt and entitlement spending is threatening to severely weaken this country and could fundamentally change our level of financial interaction with the government, requiring a doubling of the current tax levels."
Why should we care and what can we do about the national debt? (http://spillingbuckets.blogspot.com/2008/08/4-things-that-we-can-do-to-fix-our.html)

The numbers unfortunately are not disputed. Did you see it? What was your view?

ROC,

I have not and probably will not see the film of which you speak.

This is a great country and we enjoy many freedoms.

We can help by not placing demands on our government. We are much better off if we take care of most things ourselves.

One of the freedoms we can enjoy is to give a gift to the US Treasury.
If you or anyone would like to double your taxes, you may write a second check to the US Treasury for the amount of your taxes. Note this will not relieve you from paying your taxes, this is a gift from you to the treasury.

The account was set-up to receive gifts from individuals in 1843.
Here is how and where to send your gift: http://www.fms.treas.gov/faq/moretopics_gifts.html

for me this is not a good idea...what did the government help you personally to increase taxes..

Lowering expenses is also an option

I was reading this morning that VP candidate Joe Biden said that people must pay more taxes in order to show their patriotism.

This is the article: http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/09/18/biden-wealthy-americans-must-pay-more-taxes-to-show-patriotism/

I wonder if Joe Biden will show everybody his patriotism, by making a generous gift to the US Treasury.

I think his patriotism is showing because he's continuing to talk. This is one of the best ways to help out the McCain campaign... ;)
