I hear the term christian financial planner (kind of like the sound of it), does it have any other connotations other than the fact that the financial planner is christian?

Christian Financial Planners, are member of Christian Financial Professionals Network, committed to investment and financial planning disciplines centered upon Biblical principles.

I don't know anything about this particular organization, but my first reaction to someone wanting to do business with me -- particularly handling or advising me on any of my financial affairs -- on the basis of us both being Christians is to put my guard up. There have been plenty of scandals in this regard in recent years (e.g. the Arizona Baptist association). Before doing business with any advisor, Christian or otherwise, you should check their record regarding client complaints, etc, with the proper regulatory bodies -- SEC, FINRA, et al.

I recall someithing the late Larry Burkett (you might know as a Christian who wrote a lot about personal finance) wrote in one of his books. It was something to the effect that he would rather have a competent nonbeliever handling his money than a so-called Christian planner that could spout Bible verses but didn't know squat about good saving and investment decisions.

Do me and everybody else in this world a favor and work with them based on their relevant credentials!!!

It's your money! If you want to trust somebody just because they sell their services with Jesus' name next to them, be my guest. However Experience, Track Record, Educational Degrees, Intelligence, Recommendation, Certifications and your personal experience with this person, should be better indicators of the financial professionals that you trust.

I would bet a lot of money that you will find a better financial professional if you base your decision on relevant credentials. Likely, one of those candidates will be Christian and then you can choose to work with them based on a personal connection.

Your retirement money should mean A LOT to you! Don't trust it with people based solely on network designations. Ask the wealthy individuals at your church who they use. They are likely to have a much better person than somebody that needed to associate themselves with a religious network to gain trust. A FINANCIAL PROFESSIONAL THAT DOES NOT ASSOCIATE HIMSELF WITH A RELIGIOUS NETWORK GAINS HIS CLIENTS' TRUST THROUGH GOOD HONEST WORK...NOT BY ASSOCIATING HIS NAME WITH GOD'S!!!!!!!!!

If this network invests your money, either directly through stocks or indirectly through mutual funds in the following, then are they worthy of Christ's name?:
1) Defense Technologies - MURDER for Greed
2) Energy - Murder, Theft, Vanity, Greed
3) Precious Metals - Murder, Theft, Vanity, Greed
Etc.....

By the way most of your mutual funds carry these kinds of stocks. My point is that unless the Christian Financial Planners are being mindful of these things, then what are they really doing that sets them apart from other financial planners? Aside from being less qualified because they need God's name to sell trust.

I take strong offense that the defense industry is murdering at all, much less for greed. I doubt that energy industries are in the business of murder either.
