Savings Bonds for College

My Godson will be one year old next month and I would like to get him a savings bond for college as a birthday gift. What type of bond should I get him?

Great Idea!

I have been giving bonds to our grandchildren at birthdays and Christmas. Problem is they are not required to use the bonds for college expenses. They prefer cars/trucks. Oh well.

Series EE or Series I Bonds would do the trick.
Right now EE bonds are paying 2.61%, and Series I bonds are paying 2.19%. New rates are set every 6 months.
