Non US Child

My husband is working here on an L1 visa. we have 2 children. One Canadian and one American. As my son is not a citizen he has no SSN therefore we can't claim the child tax credit. Is this true? Is there anyway to claim the child tax credit for non American children. Thank you.

Aliens who are required to have an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) but are not eligible for a Social Security number, must file form w-7, appirltion for ITIN, with the IRS.
