View Full Version : Disputing fraudelent card transactions

kaush
Earlier last month, there were a series of 5 fraudelent transactions spread over three days on my check/debit card that I use for my everyday transactions. I informed my bank that I have never made those transactions, and disputed them. I obviously asked for (and received) a new card.

This week they sent me a letter informing me that the 'transaction activity in question was authorized and posted correctly' and reversed the temporary credit for the first transaction. I am assuming that similar action will follow for the other transactions too.

I'll call them up on monday and fight it. But I wanted to find out if anyone here has gone through something similar and can advise me on the options available to me. What does one do in such cases? If they refuses to entertain any further dispute, is there any independent forum to which I can send this dispute?

Also, is there any way I can protect myself against such fraud?

You have to look on the back of your statement to see where to send a dispute. You must send a written dispute in order to retain your rights under the FCBA. Then you will have further legal recourse.
