View Full Version : problem w/ previous employer and stock options

frankp
I vested a good number of stock options at my previous employer and after resigning I submitted the necessary paperwork to purchase these options. It has now been six months since the paperwork was submitted and I've yet to receive any document stating that I own shares in the company. The check I sent hasn't even been cashed. So I've got a few questions:

- is there a certain amount of time in which the employer has to give a me some sort of legal document stating that I own shares or can they take however long they want?
- what are the tax implications of getting the shares sooner rather than later? If the company goes public or gets bought 8 months after I get the shares rather than a year after I get them I'll have to pay more in taxes, right?

I'm not sure of the time limitation. Qualifed plans have 30-45 days to transfer assets in most cases. But for the taxation question, try this link:
