View Full Version : Ford Explorer Firestone Tire Replacement Program

I am amazed at the full page ads Ford has been running in USA Today recently, announcing that their dealerships stand ready to replace the Firestone tires which Ford has determined should be replaced on Ford Explorers. I was affected by the most recent recall of tires announced by Ford, and my Ford dealer in the suburbs of Denver, CO has informed me that I am number 800 on their list of customers awaiting replacements! That's quite a different story than is suggested in the ads signed by the president of Ford! When I asked my dealer about these ads, they seem to laugh if off and tell me that the replacement tires are being delivered to the dealers in extremely small quantities. Further, they've told me that I'm not likely to experience a more rapid replacement at any other area Ford or Lincoln Mercury dealer. My current tires are near the end of their normal life expectancy, and although Ford keeps track of the milage on my vehicle, they've not implemented any means of identifying those of us whose tires ought to be replaced sooner rather than later. True enough, I can go to another tire dealer and pay for the replacement and have Ford reimburse me, which is what I may very well do (even Goodyear, who is honoring Ford's replacement policy without causing out-of-pocket expense to the consumer, has me on a three-month waiting list for replacements); I wouldn't be so upset over Ford's replacement process except for the fact that Ford has had the audacity to run those ads which seem to be an outright lie! I've been a loyal Ford customer over the last twenty years, but their handling of this situation certainly has me reconsidering my future auto purchases. Ford does not seem to be quite as concerned about my safety as I originally thought they were.
