View Full Version : Online brokers for canada

drunkenmonkey
Hi,

I've been searching and reading for about a week now on stock/fund investments. Now it's time for a test run, so i decided to sign up with an online broker. Like most newbies, i went with these cheapest online brokers scottrade.com, ameritrade.com, and firsttrade.com. To my surprise, none of these sites allow about every countries on the planet except Canada (I live in Canada). Could anyone tell me why they don't allow Canada?
Is there any other sites (that is similar to scottrade.com...) that allows people from Canada to open an account? Any Canadian online trader in here, Please help!

Thank You!

There are reasons why noncitizens of the US generally can't open brokerage accounts with US brokers. But I don't know what they are.

Try ETrade:
http://www.canada.etrade.com

Or TD Waterhouse:
http://www.tdwaterhouse.ca/

Hope this helps.

To open a bank account in the US typically you must be in the US or have US address. Don't know why.
