View Full Version : Coupons, Save you money? Maybe not!
LateSvr
I used to clip coupons for grocery shopping everytime I found coupons from the Sunday paper, but now I've come to realize, that I was buying those products only because I had the coupon!
So, when clipping coupons, before you clip and save a particular coupon, ask yourself, if you would you really buy this product if you didn't have the coupon or is the product something you actually need? Then again, can you live without it?

The Sunday paper is not a place to get coupons if you want to save money. There are other places where you can get the coupons you really need and want. Saving with coupons takes time and organization, but it can mean huge savings. It's worth following those that know what their doing and following their example. The grocery coupon guide (http://www.grocerycouponguide.com) is a good place to start with a lot of valuable information on how to get coupons that you will use and how to get the most from them through stacking.

Another good site is www.couponmountain.com This site offers great coupons on a wide range of products, stores, and services. I always go there before I head out to the store to see if there are any coupons so that I can save money,

Honestly, I almost never use coupons when I go grocery shopping. I know that if I did, I would end up buying more items that I didn't need just because the coupons were saving me money. Then in the end, the reason for me using the coupons (so save money) would be canceled out because I would spend about the same or even more in the end.

I would suggest being extremely frugal and starting your shopping point at the local dollar store.
These days dollar stores have advanced to the point where you can find a lot of quality merchandise -- and even some Name Brand items for cheap! This can save you several dollars or more on the purchase of the same or similar items. Now if you just can't find anything from the dollar store to do the trick - Then and only then should you resort to going to a general larger chain store. Once I started making a strict habit of this I began seeing an average of $80 - $100 in saving each month. That's extra cash that I can use to invest in more important things.
Bottom Line: Don't get caught-up with Brand Names. Just buy stuff that's good enough to get the job done.

If you are going to buy that particular brand at that time, a coupon will save you money, but otherwise it can be a little tricky.
If the cost of the coupon brand is higher than other brands you might buy by more than the coupon value it can actually cost you extra.
If it is for something you don't really want and it will rot in the fridge, it isn't much of a savings.
I would suggest you to avoid most coupons until they have pretty much organized their shopping trips. It takes a lot of math to figure out whether a coupon is worthwhile or not--and most are not worth the time and effort it takes.

You always end up spending more with coupons, they make you spend 10 to save 1.
