View Full Version : Basic Home Budget Software
elamcup
I am keeping track of my household budget on paper. I want to enter that info into a software program that will breakdown the information into mothly and annual spreadsheets. My computer came with Microsoft Money and I tried it but it got too complicated so I went back to paper. Entering all of my banking/saving account information makes me feel uneasy.
Does anyone know of a simple program that's easy to use and doesn't need an accounting degree?
Thanks

You don't have to enter the account numbers and the like into MS-Money in order to make it useful. I realize that the program has a tendancy to try to force you into this, but you can still use the program without it.
You can also just use an MS-Excel (or Google!) spreadsheet to track your budget, if you have a simple paper process that you'd just like to have on the computer. Or, you could do a search on the internet - I'm pretty sure that the last time I checked on it, there were several alternatives in low-cost spreadsheet based budget programs available for download.
Hope this helps -

I used Quicken for many years but disliked it's internet cluttered/advertising display. I am very happy with ACE Money. The lite version is free. Google it and have a look for yourself. I'm pleased. "Envelopes" is to tied to the internet in my opinion.

I just use a spreadsheat. I have all of my accounts (retirement, stock, savings, cc, mortgage, student loans) across the top, with their interst rates, ect. Each month I ad a row and enter the value of each account. The I have it do three totals (plus, minus, overall networth). This allows me to track each month to see how my positive accounts (retirement, savings, ect) have done as well as negative (cc, mortgage, ect), and I can see how my overall networth is changing from month to month.
