View Full Version : Partial Recharacterization into a Roth IRA
dmdmark
My wife and I have contributed 11,000 to our 2008 Traditional IRA. The contributions were made in lump sums of 5000 and 6000. Our 2008 joint AGI will probably be about 162,000 which is in the "gray zone" for a partial Roth. How do I calculate the specific amount (with assoc loss or earning) that I can recharacterize from the Traditional into a Roth?

Dmdmark,
Your question is not really clear to me
We Convert from a Triditional IRA to a ROTH IRA. We Recharacterize from a ROTH IRA to a Traditional IRA.
Because your 2008 IRA contributions have not been reported to the IRS, you should call your IRA custodian and ask if you can change your contribution to a ROTH IRA. Worksheet 2-2 in IRS PUB 590 can be used to help you determine how much you can contribute to a ROTH IRA.
