When you "consolidate," the loan usually is not funded until your grace period, usually November. However, under federal law, you can--any time up until that loan is officially "funded"--change your consolidation from one Company to another. I happen to find that Educational Loan Company guaranteed their benefit loan program in writing, and had better benefits than what I could find elsewhere, and so I switched over to them. Their benefits are listed here:
