Got it - early IRA distro can used penalty-free for first time homebuyer for expenses related to "buying, building, or rebuilding" a home. I'm planning to buy a home in need of significant overhaul - needs new HVAC, delapidated pool fence (i.e. safety hazard), et al. These items go beyond routine maintenence and are not cosmetic/optional. Would replacing these key system/structure items qualify for use of these funds?
