Top 3 Tips on Saving Money

I thought it might be useful for everyone to share some tips they use to save money.

1) I direct deposit money into my savings account so it does not even touch my checking account. I contribute 10% of my paycheck to my 401k--I never so it so I do not miss it as much.

2) I do not window shop on websites, ads or in the mall. Then I am not as tepted to buy the big ticket items that will put me back.

3) Like an exercise regiment, my wife and I try to push each other to do our best to save.

My wife takes the Best Buy and Circuit City ads out of the Sunday paper, and hides them from me. Man, just thinking about it makes me want to upgrade my wide-screen TV!

The direct deposit is a great idea. I use it myself and deposit most of my paycheck into a high yield money market savings account which I can't get too unless I request a transfer. One board tip is not to live above your means. So many people in this country want to keep up with the "Jones" and it is not worth it. If you can remember that, than you can save all that you will need.

Old thread, but some tips that are posted here are still very interesting. I just love it when people are posting something about "how to save money from..." cuz I know help is on its way. :D
