Consolidating Loans / Military Service

Hello,
my name is David and this is my first post on the forum.
I consolidated my Perkins and Stafford loans about 9 months ago through Sallie Mae. Actually my parents did it when I was away for initial army training.
Perkins loans offers loan forgiveness for combat vets. Am I inelegible for that because I consolidated?

To piggyback, what other programs exist to benefit servicemembers with their loans.

you can hear a pin drop here.
Nobody here has any knowledge or experience with ways to knock out these two standard loans?

This is pretty specific information, and it appears none of us have any experience with it.

Your only viable option is to call Sallie Mae and ask them if you can have your Perkins forgiven because of your service. Chances are, consolidation has ruined that option for you. So, if you need an excuse to hate your parents, here it is.
