I'm looking for advice on what type of student loan to take out. Here's some info on my situation:
I'm 28 years old working full time, I'm currently enrolled in Ellis College of NYIT as an online part time student. I'm taking 1 course every 3 months, each course costs roughly $1,400. My company will pay for courses related to my job (technology), but I must pay for all the other courses required to complete my bachelors degree. Since I make a decent salary and I'm only a part time student I guess I wouldn't qualify for a federal loan? Is my only loan option a private loan? Are there any companies you would recommend for a private loan? Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks |

Many people can qualify for the Fed loans, but you won't know until you fill out a FAFSA.
The only issue with going part time is that they may demand repayment immediately (that is, that you start a payment plan). The payment should be dirt cheap at first -- maybe $50 on a $3,000 loan?-ish?

I thought one of the condition of a FAFSA loan is that you must be going to school at least half-time?

Frankly, I can't remember! But read the instructions on the FAFSA website, and see. It doesn't hurt to try, and it's free to do the FAFSA.
Another option is simply to save. You say you are making a good salary -- can't $1400 every three months be carved out of that?

Re: Need advice choosing a loan
A good credit history is an essential prerequisite for applying for a student loan. A student with a good credit history always stands in good stead to qualify himself for a student loan. So, it is always advisable that students who go for loans keep their credit within limits.
