hi
I just filed my 2007 return and my accountant told me that the amount I spent for landscaping and weekly lawn maintenance is not deductible. Is this accurate? Not that I doubt him but he did make an error doing my capital gains so I want to check here.. thanks pat301 |

Landscaping and lawn maintenance is not deductible. Much like home maintenance is not tax deductible.

You're welcome. Sorry it wasn't the answer you were hoping for. If the landscaping were a bonafide business expense not associated with your primary residence, you might have a deduction though.

well, to add to that a little bit .. if you operate a home office (for your business or for the convenience of and permission of your employer), you have a deduction for your home lawncare and maintenance the same as you would for electricity and water.

It would make sense in the case of home office/business, but lawn care is considered an Unrelated expense by the IRS and as such is a non-deductible expense. It is listed specifically as such in Table 1: "Types of expenses" in the Home Office Deduction section.
