Concerning School Loan Story

So i got off the phone with Sallie Mae today.....wow...they have a whole crew of brain surgeons over there!!! This company should be tried for extortion. i was just calling to find out how to pay principal only payments over there bill pay system. You would have thought I was asking them to split an atom. I talked with several different representatives that told me that 'oh..you don't want to pay the principal down.....you should just pay your really low monthly payment.... etc... etc. Finally after demanding that I speak with a supervisor....they explained that in order to apply payment to my princiapal I had to pay my bill online and then e-mail them a message saying that I wanted the last payment to apply to my principal amount. These loan companies seem to make it as hard and compliated as possible to pay off your debt.

This is horrible. All my loan companies either have a button to click which way you want to apply extra money or they automatically put it towards principal. I wouldn't be suprised if even emailing them after every payment still prompts them to put in the "paying payments ahead" rather than towards principal. What a sin. All I can say is I must have gotten lucky to not have to deal with this.

Also, props to you for sticking it out and getting to the route of it. I know its like speaking to monkeys sometimes. All they know is to hit keys on the keyboard and spout lines off their script.

Mine were the same way...it was very easy to put an extra few dollars towards principal each month..and it really does help. I never had to call sallie mae, and it sounds like I was lucky that I didn't. After I , it was much easier to handle the payments each month.

Thumbs up

tourgolf,

Don't take this the wrong way, but I think you just officially won the "Most Diversified Sales Links in a User Signature" award.

Keep checking your e-mail for your prize.
