Use caution when shopping for student loans
A college education is a huge investment. Students and their parents should be extremely careful when taking out loans to finance it. Students should be aware that have the right to choose lenders not on the college’s preferred lender list. They should carefully examine the terms of any loan offer to be sure they are getting the best possible deal. In addition, students and parents should be especially wary of unsolicited loan offers that appear to be from the federal government, deceptive web sites and loans that offer free gifts, such as cell phones or iPods.
