Advice on consumer credit counseling?

My debt payments are straining my income to the breaking point. I do not want to declare bankruptcy, I am not able to secure any loans, and do not have house equity to cover my debts.

The good news is I have a steady job and brighter prospects for the future.

I have been advised to work with CCCS -- Consumer Credit Counseling Services -- to set up a payment plan for my debts. I have also been told of an outfit called Curadebt (www.curadebt.com) that claims to not only consolidate your bills, but negotiate some down.

Do any of you have additional advice or comments on these approaches? Thank you very much.

I have been speaking with a consumer credit counseling service. They say that it is better to pay everything in full so when a creditor sees the comment on your credit report re: your payment status, it will not say "negotiated" . Instead it will say "paid in full" .
There is a flip side to that . I asked if the creditors will report on my credit that I used a CCS, and he said "yes, but, that won't matter."
The whole secret here, is that they add in their fee of $39.99 a month, and ask you to make payments to them monthly. Basically, you are writing them a check, they divide that check up (less the $39.99) and dispurse each creditor so they all get paid every month. I know they don't do anything for free, but, why would I pay them for something I can send myself? They would like for you to pay small payments ( maybe over 3 years ), so it will take longer to pay it off. That means 39.99 each and every month. Talk about residual!

Hope I helped you.
Invest with the best,

Simply arrange a payment plan with your creditors, as long as you pay something monthly they can't report you the the CB.. as kbonta mentioned stay away from debt consolidation companies it will show up in your credit report they do nothing you can't do yourself.
pay off credit card debts first than get rid of most or all of them they are a killer

Coming Back,
I just recently made my last payment on my plan with ACCC
http://www.consumercredit.com/

They were very good. When you do your budget, don't strap yourself too badly. Make sure you can live with your budget and be able to handle any unexpected expenses that may occur. Good luck and take care.

Your budget Make sure that you can live with get and be able to handle any unexpected expenses that may occur. They would like for you to pay small payments, instead of that it will say
“Pay in full”.
