I have a SEP IRA from a previous employer, as well as a 401k from my current employer. Once I have left my current employer, can I roll over my 401k funds into the SEP IRA, rather than maintaining the accounts separately or opening a new traditional IRA??
Thanks in advance ![]() |

Kom1977,
You certainly can move your SEP-IRA funds to a Traditional IRA. If you do this using a trustee to trustee transfer, this would not be a taxable event, and there would be no withholding. Most 401k plans do not allow an employee to transfer funds from their 401k account as long as they are employed. Generally you must leave the employer before you can take a distribution from your 401k plan. After leaving your employer, you can move your 401k plans to a Traditional IRA. I cannot find anywhere that specifically allows transferring tax deferred funds (your 401k money) into a SEP-IRA. This action may be plan (sep-ira) specific. |

Yes, you can definitely roll a 401K into a SEP IRA.
