Too nervous to do anything

With everything that has gone on in the financial world since last fall, I find I can't make a decision on my retirement accounts. I haven't contributed much to my 2008 Roth account yet. I need to change my asset allocations, but I'm not convinced anyone else knows what to do either, from Washington to Wall Street to me. I'm just afraid of making the wrong decision, probably like everyone else.

I'm 54, single, no dependents. My retirement was hit bad like everyone else, meaning IF i retire, I have no idea WHEN it will happen. I'm looking for opinions on what my asset allocation should be now: how much in equities (growth, value, small, large?) bonds, or just keep it under my mattress? I'm hoping that good days actually are ahead and want to be in a good position. I just hope they aren't 10 years from now.

I keep thinking of an old Yiddish saying: "Man plans, God laughs."

Thanks,
Mike

Garp,

If you do an edit, you can delete your post...

I enjoyed your Yiddish saying, We know God is in control.

What we do with our portfolio is likely to be different for each of us. This all depends on what our goals are, what our tolerance thereshold is, how much we have available, how much we will need, and when we will need it (somewhat the same as goal).

It is important to do something, and staying invested is the best idea.
