I recieved a 1098 for mortage interest paid on a timeshare in the amount of 2,648.17. Is this deductible to me and where do I put this amount on my 1040?
I'm looking at Form 8396 (Mortgage Interest Credit) and it doesn't make sense that the form tells you to put the final amount on line 46 of 1040. Any advice? |

C2csailor,
Is the time share your main or second home? Then the interest is deductable as an itemized deduction on Scheule A line 10. See IRS Pub 936, Home Mortgage Interest Deduction. If this is interest paid on money you borrowed for an investment, then you need to complete form 4952, Investment Interest Expense Deduction. |
